Tatva School Children visit to Bhoomi Farm

From February 5th to 9th, our Bhoomi Tiruvannamalai farm hosted a five-day residential camp for 20 students and 3 teachers from Tatva School, Chennai. During their stay, the students engaged in various farm activities, including harvesting horse gram, transplanting paddy, creating raised beds, and learning about different paddy varieties. They also had the opportunity to participate in traditional games workshops conducted by Ima ReCreations, a social enterprise. Additionally, the children interacted with a local organic farmer, gaining insights into the life of a farmer. Fun activities such as trekking to the river, village walks, team cooking, and bonfire nights were also incorporated into the experience. They embraced millet-based foods and the basic facilities at the camp with remarkable enthusiasm.

Here are some sharings from the children:

Stuti, Grade 8: It is easy for us to sit at home and waste food but we never think about how the food came to us and what are the efforts put behind it. I admire all the farmers who toil every day while we whine to work one hour in the hot sun. 

Harshini, Grade 8: Exploring and working in the farm was an amazing experience. I enjoyed the star-gazing session, going on trek, watching the sunrise, bonfire and the food.

Vaishnavi, Grade 8: We had the wonderful opportunity to experience farming and thank you for showing us the reality of food. Thanks to Immaculate ma'am for reminding us about a whole lot of games that we have forgotten to play instead of watching TV.

Witnessing the children's laughter, boundless energy, and enthusiastic engagement with farm life was truly heartwarming. We are sure that the experience of living away from home, immersed in a rustic environment, devoid of technology, and embraced by a sense of community, has left a lasting impression on the participants.
